Here is the first release of the appletrailerfs for the WD TV. It allows you to view the movie trailers from the Apple Trailer page on the WD TV. In case you don’t know the Apple Trailer page I highly recommend it, you get up to 1080p trailers and clips of all the current and upcoming movies.

The application image can be downloaded at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=259619&package_id=320560&release_id=679574 (usually the appletrailerfs-0.1.1.1-alpha-wdtv.zip file is the correct one) or find it in our downloads section.

The application image can be used with either Zorander’s ext3-boot or B-RAD’s WDLXTV. Simply extract the file and copy the appletrailerfs.app.bin onto a USB stick that you use while booting the WDTV.
After a reboot, to view the movie trailers, just navigate to the “Video” menu and select “Folders”. Then go into the “Apple Trailers” directory and browse for a movie and trailer.

Successfully tested on

• ext3-boot 0.8.7.2
• ext3-boot 0.9.2
• WDLXTV 0.5.2

Some movie trailers won’t play because the trailers are no longer online, in the next releases there will be a filter mechanism.

Those who are interested in the source code can take a look at the appletrailerfs Subversion repository or the source packages at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=259619&package_id=318742. The filesystem also works on any other Linux if you want to use it there.

The WD TVC.com movie thumbnail generator is updated. In the old version some movies were unable to find. From now on you have some options to choose from so you will find your movie poster 99% of the times. Try searching imdb ID or movie title first, if that doesn’t give any results try enabling “wild” search. It’s also possible to resize from an url. The thumbnail generator is still being worked on, if you found a problem or have a functionality request please post here.
