Official Name and Price of New WD-TV Player Out

From some reliable sources, WDTVC.com has got some new information on the successor of the popular WD TV-media player. It will have a retail price of 149 Euro in Europe. The official name of the device will be WD Live TV Media Player.

Detailed specifications and some photos of the new Western Digital media player were leaked earlier, but the price and release date were unknown. The price online retailers are expected to offer the new media player will probably be around 110 Euros.

It was thought the new media player would be named “WD-2 Live TV Media Player ‘, but the specs show the final name will be ” WD TV Live Media Player”. The ‘Live’ part in the product name refers to the addition of an ethernet port.

The source could not say when exactly the WD TV Live will be released in Europe, but the most likely month is October. Information on DTS-downmixing, DVD/BluRay-menu support or other much wanted functionalities isn’t available yet.

appletrailerfs 0.3.2-beta Released

From appletrailerfs’ website:

“A new version of appletrailerfs has been released. appletrailerfs brings you the Apple movie trailers to the Western Digital TV HD and your PC.

This version introduces a new cache mode that improves performance, especially for 720p and 1080p trailers. The new cache mode is the default one, so no changes are neccesary to any config files.

The WDTV application image is available at http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?group_id=259619&filename=appletrailerfs-0.3.2-beta-wdtv.zip.
As always, to use this you need ext3-boot or WDLXTV and you must copy all files from the downloaded ZIP file to your USB boot stick.
If you don’t want to use the GUI modifications just delete the file appletrailerfs.app.event from your USB boot stick.

All project files can be downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=259619.

For future developments and time frames have a look at the roadmap.

WDTV2 Prototype Spotted

Over at AVSForum a member got some pictures of what looks to be a WDTV2 prototype.  There’s no information about the new version except for the noticeable network port, video inputs for the standard def, and the DTS downmix.
